An Initiative by Ecogreenunit Foundation
Ecogreenunit Foundation conducted a practical training programme on Areca Leaf Plate Making for rural communities in Meghalaya, equipping local participants with skills to develop sustainable livelihood opportunities through eco-friendly product manufacturing.
The training introduced participants to the collection and selection of fallen areca palm leaves, cleaning and preparation, machine operation, and the production of biodegradable plates and food containers. The programme demonstrated how naturally fallen areca leaves can be transformed into useful, value-added products, reducing agricultural waste and offering an alternative to single-use plastic tableware.
The initiative aimed to promote rural entrepreneurship, create local employment opportunities, and encourage the establishment of small-scale enterprises, particularly among rural youth, women, and Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Participants gained practical exposure to a business opportunity that combines environmental responsibility with income generation.
Through this initiative, Ecogreenunit Foundation continues to promote its “Wealth Out of Waste” approach, empowering rural communities with appropriate technologies, practical skills, and sustainable enterprise models.
