Empowering Rural Women through Banana Fibre Crafts and Microgreens Cultivation

Ecogreenunit Foundation conducted a skill development training programme for rural women’s groups at Karunguzhi Village, Madurantakam Taluk, Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu, focusing on banana fibre crafts and microgreens cultivation.

The programme aimed to equip rural women with practical skills to develop sustainable, home-based livelihood opportunities by utilising locally available resources and adopting innovative cultivation techniques.

The banana fibre crafts training introduced participants to the potential of converting discarded banana plant stems into useful, eco-friendly products, creating opportunities for value addition, waste reduction, and rural entrepreneurship. The microgreens cultivation session covered basic growing techniques, seed selection, growing media, watering, harvesting, and hygienic handling. Participants learned how microgreens can be cultivated in small spaces and marketed as fresh produce to health-conscious consumers.

Through this dual-skill initiative, Ecogreenunit Foundation seeks to promote women’s empowerment, circular economy practices, environmental sustainability, and income-generating opportunities for rural communities. The programme reflects the organisation’s commitment to transforming agricultural resources into economic value while strengthening grassroots entrepreneurship.for further details Contact:9976976767
